PML-N is habitual of issuing white papers; this practice does not seem new for them and public. Govt is much alive to the worsening situation of electricity in Pakistan and recent deliberations of the Federal Cabinet okaying eight rental power projects (RPPs) comes as a welcome step in these afflicted times. RPPs are a stopgap measure where crisis situations demand quick-fix solutions.
PML-N’s imbroglio over RPPs is just an idiocy, definitely no Govt wants to take unpopular decision but Govt did for long term. These shortsighted people, having narrow approach are definitely unable to understand. It was not the PPP but a dictator which even did not install a single power generation unit in the country. Blaming PPP for each and every wrongdoing is unfair.

In terms of calculating costs, the RPPs are appealing in the long run and would much helpful in overcoming power shortage. In wake of the bane of shortage in the electricity sector Govt is also working on alternate sources. The Thar coal reserves are a gold mine and soon Govt will work out and once these come on line, Pakistan would not have to endure load shedding for the next 100 years. Indeed it is the incumbent Govt that is heeding on the alternate sources of energy, no one thought before. It is worth mentioning that while developing this rich resource, state-of-the-art relatively ecologically friendly coal technologies should be sought. PML-N must realize that it should be a part of solution to the problems but it is constantly creating problems and hurdles in smooth functioning of the Govt. Mere criticism does not bode well. After losing bye-polls from NA-21 Mansehra, PML-N should have realized its worth.
